In my humble opinion, Imran Khan should be released from prison; and not later, not eventually, but now. This is no longer merely a legal or political issue. It has become a matter of national stability, public confidence, and the future peace of Pakistan. Imran Khan is not an ordinary political figure. He carries the support of millions who see him as their representative and their hope for change. When such a leader is kept behind bars under circumstances many believe are politically driven, it creates deep frustration, resentment, and emotional unrest across the country. The danger is clear; if anything happens to him while he is imprisoned, the consequences for law and order could be severe and far-reaching.
Pakistan is already passing through fragile times. The economy is under pressure, institutions are being questioned, and public trust is at a low point. Adding further instability by continuing to detain a popular leader is not strength, it is shortsightedness. People are watching closely, and every passing day increases anger, uncertainty, and division. This is not a situation that can be managed indefinitely. Societies fracture when citizens begin to feel that justice is selective and accountability only applies to those without power.
Let us also be honest about the double standard that everyone can see. Those currently in authority carry far heavier corrupt baggage than the allegations levelled against Imran Khan. This is not hidden knowledge; it is openly discussed in drawing rooms, marketplaces, and online spaces. The charges against him appear minor when compared with the well-known corruption associated with many powerful figures who continue to operate freely. This imbalance damages faith in the system. When people see one man imprisoned while others with deeper scandals remain untouched, they stop believing in fairness. They stop believing in institutions. And once that happens, a nation begins to weaken from within.
There is also a simple political reality that cannot be ignored. If Imran Khan remains imprisoned and something tragic happens to him, those responsible will face massive public backlash and lasting historical judgment. If he is eventually released and returns to power, those who orchestrated his imprisonment will still face consequences. Either way, there is no winning scenario for those in power. The longer this continues, the higher the cost becomes. The only path that reduces damage is to pardon him now, while there is still time to de-escalate tensions.
This is not about supporting one party over another. This is about preventing chaos. This is about protecting lives. This is about choosing stability over ego and wisdom over stubbornness. Releasing Imran Khan would immediately lower national tension and send a message that reconciliation is still possible, that dialogue still matters, and that Pakistan’s future is more important than political vendettas. Leadership is knowing when to step back before a situation spirals beyond control.
Time is running out. Every day he remains in prison, public anger grows, distrust deepens, and instability increases. This path leads nowhere good. For the sake of peace, for the sake of social harmony, and for the sake of the nation, Imran Khan should be released - urgently - before it becomes too late.
